Erdőbénye, snuggled in the basin under the Zemplén mountains, holds its Aszú festival to celebrate Tokaji Aszú, a wine style unique to the Tokaj Wine Region.
The principles of the winemaking are fairly similar to those used hundreds of years ago to extract the exciting elemnts – flavours, aromas, sugars – from the dried aszú berries, each one handpicked directly from the vine. Legend has it that the first Aszú wine was created by Szepsi Laczkó Máté who lived in Erdőbénye in the 17th century. This is a gastronomic festival paying homage to the wine speciality.
A village celebration, though most of the top wineries will be open too as part of the Mini BMB Aszú celebration.
